March 12, 2008: H.R. 5563 (GIVE Act, a bill reauthorizing and streamlining AmeriCorps) fails by 3 votes on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. ANSA made over 80 calls to congressional representatives encouraging their support for the Bill. Though AmeriCorps did not receive a congressional reauthorization, the program will continue to limp along as it has since its inception in 1993. Click on the tab to the left for more information.
January 2008: Americans for a National Service Act becomes the 32nd organization to join the Service Nation Campaign.
September 10, 2007: TIME Magazine publishes an issue dedicated to promoting National Service ideas, signaling a new public debate on the issue.
January 2007: Americans for a National Service Act is formed by Iraq War Vets.
